However, as preparations started for the modernization of their IT organization, there was one glaring hole, there was no disaster recovery or business continuity plan in place. Full On Consulting immediately recognized this serious deficiency and worked with executives to help them understand the issue and potential impact to the company if an unexpected event were to occur. Full On worked with business leaders to define and implement a business continuity plan. We also Identified and selected a provider to host the backup SAP instance in the cloud. Working with the provider, we were able to implement near real-time replication and tested the failover to the backup instance.
The company now had in place a business continuity and disaster recovery plan with policies, procedures and plans in the event a serious outage were to occur.
A year after the implementation of the business continuity and disaster recovery plan, the company experienced a data center fire that affected the servers, switches and routers. The backup SAP instance and virtualized environment were activated. Users were relocated to a nearby office, where they were able to resume business operations. As a result of this plan, the company did not miss the shipment of customer orders, continued the entry of orders and saved them $40M, as well as their credibility with their customers.
